They are planning a concert to raise funds for a week away on a bus trip for some sightseeing and a little gambling at the Casino…. of course things never go according to plan. |

 May 5-14, 2016The Games Afoot written by Ken Ludwig | directed by Carol HaydenA murder mystery / thriller / comedy? Yes! This play had it all. The script twisted and turned like a twisty-turny thing and kept the audience guessing as they tried to figure out ‘whodunnit’. With a couple of the most delicious characters ever to grace the stage in Waihi, ‘The Games Afoot’ provided moments of sheer delight interspersed with passages of complete confusion.

The first was written especially for the society’s commemoration of the 1912 Waihi Miner’s Strike. The second followed a Waihi family whose lives were forever changed by World War I. |

What a huge crowd pleaser. Rodgers & Hammersteins legendary musical was a sell-out success. The course of true love never does run smooth and the cowboys in Oklahoma were no exception. Emotions ran the gamut from feel-good fun to downright scary.

Whose Life Is It Anyway?

This excellent drama asking who has the right to decide if a patient lives or dies took both cast and audience on an emotional rollercoaster ride. To move an audience to both tears and laughter in the same show was a big ask and the talented cast really delivered.

The Kidnap Game

This was a great drama set in the office of an arms dealer. The audience thoroughly enjoyed the twists and turns this story took. With a multitude of lines to learn and the serious acting, this was a drama the cast took to with relish and delivered superbly. To those who designed and put together the amazing set we send our thanks.

Wow! did this production have the audience laughing. gasping and tears flowing at the end. Even the two actors had tears rolling down their faces, both Sara Single and Kevin Low gave it their all making this another very very successful Waihi Drama Society production.

You Must Remember This

A musical written by Val Ferguson, Linda Haines and Elisabeth Beamish saw the first act centered around a New Zealand family who have sons going off to World War II along with other young men and women from their small town. The second half saw the Home Guard doing their best and the local ladies cleaning the hall before the return of their troops who come home to much celebration. Songs from the era stirred the emotions of the audience.

A mischievous boy who can fly and never grows up, Peter Pan spends his never-ending childhood having adventures on the small island of Neverland as the leader of his gang, the Lost Boys, interacting with mermaids, Native Americans, fairies, pirates, and occasionally ordinary children from the world outside Neverland.

Twelve Angry Men

A jury room, 1954. Summer.
Following the closing arguments in a murder trial, the 12 members of the jury must deliberate, with a guilty verdict meaning death for the accused, an inner-city teen. As the dozen men try to reach a unanimous decision while sequestered in a room, one juror casts considerable doubt on elements of the case. Personal issues soon rise to the surface, and conflict threatens to derail the delicate process that will decide one boy’s fate.
